Being on stage in front of a live audience has become one of my favorite ways to showcase my acting. Most people have a fear of speaking let alone acting in front of others. I find it exhilarating, exciting, encouraging and to be honest, fun! The best part of theater is being able to feel and see in real time the audience’s responses to your work on stage. Regardless of the emotion I am attempting to act out on stage, the feedback from the audience keeps me striving to do my best work on stage.
For this particular theater production, myself (aka John Darling) and my “Darling” siblings, Wendy and Michael, got to add another layer to our acting skills: learning to fly! Little did we know that flying would require extensive training AND on top of that fly training, we would need to be acting and choreographing our flight too! I must say, the flying was pretty awesome and being able to do this on stage was incredible. With “Peter Pan” leading us on stage, this was most certainly one of the highlights of the show for the audience and actors. It was awesome to be cast as one of the few actors that had the opportunity to take flight in this production.
South County Performing Arts does an incredible job with their productions and continues to inspire me to perfect my craft in more ways than one. From the Lost Boys to the Pirates to the Fairies, this collective group of actors keeps me “hooked” on theater. I stand ready to take flight in future productions!
